Coupons & Promo Types
All the ways to save at Walmart. Each promo type can often be combined — see the Stacking Tips section.
Rollbacks
Walmart's signature temporary price reduction — applied to specific items for weeks to 90 days. Requires no coupon, code, or membership. At any given time, 7,000+ active Rollbacks exist across the site and stores. After a Rollback ends, items return to regular price, drop further, or move to clearance.
Always AvailableClearance
Discontinued or phased-out inventory marked down progressively — starting at 25–30% off and dropping to 90%+ off at final markdown. Clearance price endings of .00 or .01 signal the floor. The Walmart app's scan feature can reveal hidden clearance prices lower than the shelf tag.
Always AvailableWalmart Cash Offers
In-app manufacturer rewards clipped on individual product pages. After qualifying purchase (delivery, pickup, or in-store), Walmart Cash is deposited to your account and redeemable on future purchases. Stacks with Rollbacks and the OnePay card.
Always AvailableSpecial Buys
One-time bulk sourcing deals where Walmart acquires overstock or exclusive inventory and passes the savings along. Distinct from Rollbacks — these are not temporary price cuts on regular items but limited-quantity purchase opportunities, available while supplies last.
PeriodicFlash Picks
Short-window, limited-quantity online deals similar in spirit to Amazon's Lightning Deals. Most visible during major Walmart sale events (Holiday Deals, Black Friday). Walmart+ members receive 5-hour early access to all online deal events.
Event-DrivenWalmart+ Week Deals
Annual members-only perks event (typically late April to early May). Features boosted fuel savings (up to 50 cents/gallon at Exxon/Mobil in 2025), Express Delivery bonuses, exclusive Rollbacks, and streaming promotions only accessible to active Walmart+ paid members.

Walmart offers multiple fulfillment options. Here's a breakdown of the shipping methods, costs, and delivery timeframes available.

Stacking Tips
Combine multiple discount types in a single transaction. These are the most effective stacking combinations at Walmart.
The Rollback + Rewards Stack
Browse Walmart.com or the app and filter by Rollback. Clip any Walmart Cash offer available on the product detail page, then complete the purchase with the OnePay CashRewards card. All three layers stack: you receive the Rollback price at checkout, the OnePay card earns 5% back in real time, and Walmart Cash posts to your account within a few days for use on a future order.
The Clearance + Portal Stack
Start your Walmart.com session by clicking through a cashback portal. Navigate to Clearance and filter by category. Clearance cannot stack with price match, but it layers freely with portal cashback and credit card rewards. On deeply discounted clearance items (70–90% off), adding 5% card cashback and portal cashback on top creates some of the best effective prices in retail.
The Walmart+ Early Access Stack
During Walmart's major sale events, Walmart+ members get a 5-hour head start online. Activate your cashback portal session first, then use your Walmart+ early access window to claim Flash Picks before stock runs out. Pay with the OnePay card for an additional 5% back. This combination works best on high-demand electronics, TVs, and kitchen appliances where inventory is thin and sellouts happen fast.
The Grocery Delivery Stack
For regular grocery shoppers, Walmart+ pays for itself almost entirely through free delivery alone. A household ordering groceries twice weekly saves roughly $900–$1,000/year in delivery fees versus non-member rates. Stack Walmart Cash manufacturer offers on staples, pay with the OnePay card for 5% back, and use the fuel discount on every fill-up. The annual $98 membership cost is effectively free — and then some — within 3–4 months of regular use.
Price Match Policy
Walmart's price match guarantee lets you claim a lower price from qualifying competitors — both at the time of purchase and up to 14 days after. Knowing the rules can save you from overpaying on big-ticket items.
No Competitor Price Matching
Walmart does not match prices from Amazon, Target, Best Buy, Costco, or any other retailer — either in-store or online. The policy was formally last updated June 8, 2023.
Walmart.com vs. Walmart Store Match
The one narrow exception: in-store shoppers can ask a store associate to match the identical item's current price on Walmart.com. This must be requested at time of purchase and is limited to one match per item per day.
Everyday Low Price Philosophy
Walmart's strategy is to permanently price items as low as possible rather than run promotions and then match competitors. Rollbacks and Special Buys are the mechanism for price reductions, not reactive price matching.
Qualifying Competitors
Exclusions
- No competitor price matching of any kind (Amazon, Target, Best Buy, Costco, etc.)
- No post-purchase price adjustments based on competitor pricing
- No price matching for third-party Marketplace sellers on Walmart.com
- Rollbacks, clearance, Black Friday, and other promotional prices are excluded from any match
- Bundle offers, rebates, gift card promotions, and financing deals cannot be matched
- Flash/limited-time/special event pricing is excluded
- Used, refurbished, or open-box items cannot be matched
- Not available in Alaska, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico for Walmart.com-to-store matches
Clearance & Markdown Schedule
Walmart follows a predictable markdown cadence that savvy shoppers can use to time purchases. Understanding how clearance works lets you decide whether to buy now or wait for a deeper cut.
Markdown Progression
Initial Clearance
New clearance items typically appear in the first 1–5 days of the month. Items move from regular shelving to clearance endcaps. Best selection — full range of sizes and colors still available. Prices ending in .95 or .90 signal this stage.
Second Markdown
Reached roughly in weeks 2–3. The sweet spot for most shoppers — meaningful discount with reasonable selection remaining. Popular sizes and colors begin to thin out. Prices often end in .00 or .85 here.
Third Markdown
Weeks 4–5. Inventory is sparse. Expect broken size runs in apparel and limited options in home and electronics. Worth a sweep if you're flexible on size or color. Prices ending in .01 start appearing.
Final Clearance
Week 6 and beyond. Prices ending in .00 or .01 are the definitive signal you've hit the floor — the lowest price before liquidation. After this stage, unsold items are returned to vendors, donated, or sent to liquidators.
Department Schedule
Apparel & Clothing
ThursdaysThursday is the most widely cited best day for clothing markdowns in-store. New clearance tags on apparel typically appear Thursday morning. End-of-season clearance (winter in January, summer in August) reaches 70–90% off.
Electronics & Appliances
MondaysElectronics clearance appears when models are refreshed or overstock needs to clear. Major appliances and TVs hit clearance ahead of new model year launches (typically late summer and fall).
Grocery & Consumables
DailyGrocery clearance is ongoing — look for items approaching sell-by dates or seasonal food nearing end of season. Markdowns are typically 25–50% and move quickly. Check the clearance rack in each grocery aisle.
Toys & Sporting Goods
TuesdaysToy clearance peaks after Christmas (January) and in June–July. Outdoor and seasonal sporting goods clear in late August. Post-Halloween (Nov. 1) sees costumes and candy drop 50% immediately.
Home & Garden
MondaysSeasonal home and garden items (patio furniture, grills, outdoor decor) clear in late August and September. Holiday decor starts at 50% off Dec. 26 and can reach 90% by early January.
Baby & Kids
ThursdaysBaby gear clearance follows product cycle refreshes — car seats, strollers, and furniture clear when new models arrive. September's Baby Days Sale features 35–70% off across baby categories.
Tag Color Guide
Standard Walmart clearance sticker. The original price is shown at top; the clearance price at bottom. Note how many times the tag has been marked down — shown in small print on the tag's top-right corner.
The definitive signal of a final markdown floor. Prices ending in .00 or .01 are the absolute lowest the item will go before it leaves the store. If you want it, buy it now.
Red Rollback tags are temporary price reductions on regular inventory — not clearance. The item will return to its regular price when the Rollback ends, so these don't follow the clearance markdown progression.
