Mozy Online Backup

Mozy was an early pioneer in consumer and small business cloud backup services, founded in 2005 in Utah and offering automatic, encrypted online backup of computer files to remote servers before cloud storage became mainstream. The service gained significant adoption by offering reliable, affordable automatic backup for Windows and Mac users who wanted protection against hard drive failure, theft, and disaster without managing physical backup media.

Dell acquired Mozy in 2007, operating it as a significant cloud services brand for both consumers and businesses. The consumer Mozy service was discontinued in 2018 as Dell shifted focus to enterprise cloud services, with personal users redirected to Carbonite as the recommended alternative. Enterprise customers were transitioned to Dell EMC's business cloud backup solutions.

Mozy's consumer cloud backup service is no longer available. Current cloud backup alternatives serving the use cases Mozy once addressed include Carbonite (which acquired Mozy's customer relationships), Backblaze (popular among consumers for its $9/month unlimited backup), iDrive, and the native cloud storage platforms (iCloud, Google Drive, OneDrive) for basic file protection.
